Softball Rounds Out Spring Trip With Split on Friday

The Suffolk University Softball team split a doubleheader to wrap up their annual spring trip with a 2-6 record on the week during the Rebel Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

Suffolk defeated Skidmore College in game one, 7-2 as senior Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) recorded her second 4-for-4 game in as many contests. McAndrews picked up four RBI in the game as she finished just a homer shy of the cycle for Suffolk.

The Rams would tack on three runs in their first at bat as junior Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) led the game off with a walk before junior Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) followed her with a single. McAndrews would come to the plate driving in both runners with a triple and also scored on the play on an errant throw for the quick 3-0 edge.

Suffolk would tack on two more in the second inning as Rosa added a run with a sacrifice fly to center before an RBI base hit by McAndrews. Her third hit of the day would knock in another run with a single as part of a two run fourth inning.

Freshman Kim Crucioli (North Andover, Mass.) picked up her second win of the trip spinning a complete game six hitter on the mound while striking out four.

Chasse scored three runs in the game as she reached base three times in five plate appearances, while sophomore Meridith Ball (Nahant, Mass.) was also a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in game one.

Suffolk was limited to just six hits in their game two loss to Geneva by an 8-4 margin.

Heading into the sixth with a 4-2 lead, the Rams allowed six unanswered runs falling in extra innings by an 8-4 margin.

They will fly north on Saturday morning and be idle until March 22 when they host Emerson College in a non-league doubleheader beginning at noon.
