Softball's Erin McAndrews Named to NFCA All-Region team

Suffolk University Softball junior Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Northeast All-Region first team selection for the 2013 season.

McAndrews was earlier named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year for her 2013 campaign and becomes the first Suffolk player since 2009 to earn honors as one of the top players in the region. McAndrews made the first team as an at-large selection as she spent most of the season switching in between the catcher and shortstop position for the Rams.

McAndrews posted big offensive numbers in 2013 as she finished the year batting .479 (56-for-117) in 37 games played. She led the GNAC with that .479 batting average, while also leading the conference in triples (6), runs batted in (42) and slugging percentage (.838). She was also tabbed a first team All-Conference selection by the GNAC. Among players in the Northeast region, McAndrews is currently the leader in batting average, triples and slugging percentage, while she ranks 26th among all NCAA Division-III players currently with the .479 average and 12th nationally with six triples. She is also second in the region in on-base percentage (.519) and RBI per game with 1.14.

Suffolk finished the 2013 season with a 16-25 record but advanced to the GNAC's Tournament Championship game despite being the number eight seed entering the eight-team field. McAndrews was 7-for-17 in the six playoff games for Suffolk as she also earned All-Tournament team honors for the Rams. She accounted for all four of Suffolk's runs in the opener going 3-for-4 driving in a pair of runs with two doubles while also scoring twice as the Rams knocked off number one seed Norwich University, 4-1.

In two seasons with Suffolk, McAndrews has 97 hits, 47 of which have been for extra bases including eight home runs. She has also knocked in 80 runs while hitting .413. She was also a second team All-Conference selection as a sophomore in 2012 by the GNAC.
