The Suffolk University Softball team and Curry College Colonels split a non-conference doubleheader at Popoulo Field in Boston's North End on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) was 4-for-4 in game one and had a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Rams to a 4-3 game one victory. Curry rallied for four runs in the seventh in the nightcap to take a 6-3 game two victory.

Game One

Rosa started off her big game one with an RBI single in the first to plate sophomore Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.). Chasse led the inning off with a single before stealing second to get into scoring position for the game's first run.

Curry would answer with a pair of runs in their following at bat in the second inning. Consecutive singles by junior Kaitlyn Madeiros (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior Mikaela Carney (North Reading, Mass.) would set the table. Freshman Melissa Donoghue (Malden, Mass.) evened the game at one with a sacrifice fly to plate Madeiros for Curry's first run of the game. Sophomore Allie Carver (Marlborough, Mass.) would give Curry a brief 2-1 lead with the Colonels' third hit of the inning.

Carney would add another run in the third for Curry with an RBI groundout.

Suffolk would even the game in the fifth inning as freshman Meredith Ball (Nahant, Mass.) led the inning off with a triple. Chasse would plate her with a single. Rosa would add her third single in as many at-bats before junior Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) knocked in Chasse to draw both teams to a 3-3 deadlock.

Sophomore Alicia Gonnella (Bridgewater, N.J.) would retire the Colonels in order in the sixth and seventh innings to help set Suffolk up for a chance to win the game in their last at-bat.

Junior Nikki Cignarella (Norwood, Mass.) led the seventh inning off as she drew a base on balls and then promptly stole second setting the table for the Rams. Rosa completed her perfect game at the plate with her fourth single to drive in Rosa as the win improved Suffolk to 7-18 with the game one victory.

Gonnella earned the win on the mound as she pitched five innings of scoreless relief striking out four hitters for her first victory of the season.

Game Two

Curry would score four runs on four hits in the seventh inning to overcome a 3-2 deficit to earn a split of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Sophomore Ariel LaRosa (Saugus, Mass.) hit a bases clearing double with one out in the seventh to put the Colonels ahead for the victory. The double was LaRosa' lone hit of the day but couldn't have come at a bigger time as she drove in three runs with the extra base hit. Junior Taryn Vigeant (Terryville, Conn.) would tack on an insurance run later in the inning as she added a two-out RBI single.

The win moves Curry to a 13-11 overall record on the season.

Curry opened the nightcap with a pair of runs as they collect three hits in the first with Madeiros and Vigeant each driving in runs with singles.

Suffolk would tack on a run in both the first and second inning to even the game.

McAndrews' triple in the first would plate Chasse who started things for the Rams with a single.

Ball collected her second triple of the afternoon in the bottom half of the second inning before coming around to score on a groundout by freshman Paige Stanley (Fair Haven, N.J.).

Gonnella would add some offense in the sixth inning as she had an RBI single to score Rosa for a 3-2 Suffolk lead after six innings of play.

Viegant was 2-for-4 in game two with a pair of RBI for Curry.

Freshman Amy Nolan (Norfolk, Mass.) was 4-for-6 in the two game's combined as she scored two runs in the Curry victory.

Curry will be back in action on Thursday afternoon as they host UMass-Dartmouth in a non-conference doubleheader.

Suffolk will host the Lasell College Lasers in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Popoulo Field on Friday afternoon beginning at 3:00pm.
