Softball Drops Doubleheader To Start Season

The Suffolk University Softball team dropped a pair of double headers to start the 2013 season.

The Rams dropped game one, 6-0 to Monmouth College before falling in the nightcap 6-1 to FDU-Florham.

Six players for the Rams would record a hit on the day as they could not get much going offensively to start the NTC Invitational in Clermont, Florida.

Sophomore Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) took the loss in game one as she allowed five runs in five innings pitched. Chasse walked seven hitters in the game, including three in the first as part of a three run inning for Monmouth.

Suffolk would threaten to score in both the first and fourth innings as they managed to get mutliple runners on base in each, but could not find the big hit to plate a run.

Game two saw FDU-Florham score a a pair of runs in each of the first two frames before adding a run the fourth and fifth inning.

Sophomore Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up Suffolk's lone RBI of the day with a base hit as she plated Chasse who singled to lead off the seventh.

Freshman Paige Stanley (Fair Haven, N.J.) pitched in both games of the double header as she only allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings combined while scattering four hits.

Suffolk will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they once again play a doubleheader against different opponents. The Rams will take on Hood College at 3:00pm, before playing Heidelburg University in the nightcap beginning at 5:00pm.
