Softball Sweeps Opening Day Double Header

The Suffolk University Softball team opened up the 2012 season with a pair of victories in their opening day of action in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The Rams were victorious in game one with a 9-1 victory over Robert Morris College in their opener. Senior Liz Galvin (Medway, Mass.) threw a complete game only allowing five hits in the process.

Suffolk knocked out 11 hits in the game, highlight by a three-hit performance by senior Karina Bolster (Carlisle, Pa.).

Sophomore Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) had three hits and a pair of RBI in game one, and drove in two more in game two's 10-2 victory over Eureka College.

In game two, freshman Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) only one earned run in five innings of work striking out five.

Suffolk scored six times in the third inning highlighted by a two-run triple by McAndrews.

On the day, Suffolk had 22 hits.

The Rams had four players combine for four hits in the double header with sophomore Nikki Cignarella (Norwood, Mass.), freshman Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) and  Bolster total a dozen hits on the day between the three of them.

Suffolk will be back in action tomorrow with a double header as they open with Arcadia at 1:30pm and will follow that up with Clarion at 3:30pm.
