Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Becker

Suffolk University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader with Becker College this afternoon by scores of 5-1 and 17-3.

 
In game one four errors led to the Hawks demise as Jessica Lewis (Bellingham, Mass.) pitched well for the Hawks, allowing just two earned runs over seven innings. Suffolk leadoff hitter Cali Loura (Farmington, Conn.) led the Rams going one for four with two RBI. Freshman pitcher Samantha McGilvray (Brighton, Mass.) went the distance for the Rams, allowing an unearned run on five hits.
 
In game two Suffolk pounded out 18 hits in a convincing 17-3 win. Clara Conklin (Haverhill, N.H.) and Karina Bolster (Carlisle, Penn.) led the Rams with three hits each and five RBI combined. Eight out of the nine Ram hitters had multiple hits in the game. Freshman Nikki Cignarella (Norwood, Mass.) went two for three with three RBI.
 
Becker seniors Rachel Weidele (Woodbridge, N.J.) and Felicia Laufer (Salem, Conn.) each had a hit and an RBI in the loss. Talan Barron (Methuen, Mass.) took the loss as the Hawks fell to 3-9 on the year. Becker will begin conference play on Sunday afternoon when they host Southern Vermont College at 1pm.
 
Suffolk pitcher Brooke Hirschfeld (Winchester, Mass.) earned the win as the Rams improved their record to 4-10 on the season.
