Suffolk Cruises to Double Header Sweep over Wheelock

Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

The Suffolk University Softball team cruised to their second double header sweep in as many days as they took care of the Wheelock College Wildcats, 8-0 and 14-0. Suffolk’s 1-2 punch of junior Monica Cioffi (East Boston, Mass.) and senior Valerie Liberatore (Chelsea, Mass.) went a combined 10-for-18 to pace the Rams offense to a team total of 21 hits in the two games as the Rams pushed their winning streak to a season-high four games.

Suffolk had little trouble in game one as they scored once in the second, and four more in the third with the big blow coming off the bat of Liberatore who drove in a pair with an RBI single.

Sophomore Cali Loura (Farmington, Conn.) connected on her fourth homer of the season in the fifth, and the Rams put the game away in the bottom of the sixth as sophomore Karina Bolster (Carlisle, Penn.) drove in a pair of runs with her fifth double of the season.

Sophomore Carissa Roche (Swampscott, Mass.) picked up her first win of the season on the mound throwing six shutout innings while striking out seven hitters.

Game two was no different as it was all Suffolk. The Rams scored 14 runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 14-0 victory.

The Rams scored six runs in the first as they drew five walks, sending 11 batters to the plate. Sophomore Liz Galvin (Medway, Mass.) knocked in a pair of runs with a double as the Rams also managed to take advantage of three Wildcats’ errors.

The Wilcats continued to issue free passes in the third inning, as the patient Rams hitters drew another four walks en route to a seven run tally in the home half of the third. Suffolk drew 11 walks in the five innings of the night cap.

Junior Clara Conklin (Haverhill, N.H.) drew the hat trick walking three times, while Galvin finished game two a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with three-RBI.

The Rams will be back in action Friday as they host Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double header beginning at 3:00pm at Popoulo Field.
