BRUNSWICK, Maine – In a pre-regional race, Suffolk men's cross country put on a show as nearly every Ram notched a personal record en route to a third-place performance Saturday morning at Bowdoin.
Suffolk, who sits eighth in the east in the latest U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional ranking, combined for a 92, good for third in the 12-team field just behind nationally ranked Tufts (27) and Bowdoin (53). The blue-and-gold's score topped Babson, who is ranked seventh in the East, by four points.
Thomas Novy anchored the Rams runners as he completed the 8k course in 26:35.7 to capture 12th in the 123-runner field.
The trio of Sean Jacobsen, Hayden Green and Tim Barry all sealed up spots in the top-25 as well. Jacobsen and Green ran their first collegiate 8Ks. The former looged a 26:47.4, good for 16th, while the latter clocked a 26:56.8, to claim 23rd. Barry was right on Green's heels in 24th thanks to his personal-best time of 27:02.5.
Selvin Backert recorded his own personal record of 27:22.4 for 31st.
Connor Hayward and Luke Sikora rounded out the Rams point earners. Hayward crossed the tape in 46th with a time of 27:44.6 and Sikora sealed 48th behind a personal-best showing of 27:47.4.
Conor Garrity (27:54.1), Justin Turner (27:59.5), Cole Bolduc (28:02.2), Shea Duffy (28:44.7) and Jacob Dubin(28:52.4) all logged personal-best on the course that will serves as the site of the NCAA Division III East Regionals in November.
Suffolk has two weeks to prep for its own meet, the Suffolk Invitational, which is store for the blue-and-gold Saturday, Oct. 15 at Franklin Park. That day will also pit the Rams against their Beantown rival, Emerson, in the annual Battle for Boston Common.
