AUSTIN, Texas – Matyas Csiki-Fejer etched another mark in Suffolk men's cross country and track & field history as the junior captain earned a spot on the 2020-21 Academic All-American Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Team second-team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors.
The distinction is Csiki-Fejer's second in as many years and first second-team honor. A year ago, he became the first-ever male runner in the Rams' record book to pick up an all-district nod, and was the youngest Academic All-American in Suffolk history across all sports. With his second nod this season he earns even more clout as the second-ever student-athlete to achieve a pair of such recognitions following in Emily Manfra's footsteps.
Suffolk has seen a student-athlete achieve Academic All-America status in each of the last four years. Overall, three Rams have combined for five Academic All-America distinctions in the University's history.
Csiki-Fejer was voted onto the second-team as a junior double-major in public policy and pre-law. He has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average, just one of 10 student-athletes among the 46 men selected to the 2020-21 list to do so.
Athletically, the long-distance runner has been a program, conference and regional powerhouse since putting on the blue-and-gold. His award shelf holds a pair of GNAC Runner of the Year honors, two GNAC Rookie of the Year nods, six individual GNAC Championship crowns, seven all-GNAC honors and four all-region nods from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Manchester, Missouri's extensive athletic resume is complimented by a perfect academic report card. Over six semesters at Suffolk, he has maintained an unblemished 4.0 GPA. He has achieved USTFCCCA academic honors three times, to go along with a pair of all-academic team spots on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), respectively.
