Trio Returns as Men’s Cross Country Captains

BOSTON – Juniors Matyas Csiki-Fejer, Nic Malm and Hunter Toyoda will continue their roles as Suffolk men's cross country captains head coach Will Feldman announced.

"This is the first year since I took over the program that we will have actual upperclassmen, and our freshmen are lucky to have three excellent captains in Hunter (Toyoda), Matyas (Csiki-Fejery) and Nic (Malm)," Feldman said.

The threesome was the first leadership unit under Feldman's guidance and has pushed the blue-and-gold since putting on Suffolk's colors as freshman in 2018.

"The three of them were part of my first recruiting class, and have been instrumental in the development of the program over the last two years," Feldman said. "They were thrown into the fire as freshmen and have continually risen to the occasion."

Individually, Csiki-Fejer is already the most decorated men's cross country runner in Suffolk's annals. He became the first male to run on the NCAA Division III Championships course, accomplishing the feat as a sophomore. That same season he garnered All-New England accolades and wrote his name in the Rams' record books as the first-ever Suffolk male runner to capture the GNAC individual crown a year after being the first to take home GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2018. The two-time all-league honoree is also accomplished academically. The Public Policy, Pre-Law student-athlete highest distinction for his efforts in the classroom is Academic All-American Fourth-Team recognition by CoSIDA, in addition to a CoSIDA Academic All-District nod, a pair of USTFCCCA All-Academic honors on top of all-conference academic accolades from the CCC (Fall 2019) and GNAC (2019-20).

On the course, Toyoda has found himself on Csiki-Fejer's heels throughout his career. The Kirkland, Washington, local's bib has contributed to the team's finish multiple times including at the 2019 GNAC Championships, where his 12th-place finish was good for a spot on the conference's second team, and the 2019 NCAA Division III New England Regionals where he posted a personal-best 8K of 27:44.2.

Malm rounds out the trio and uses his competitive nature to push his teammates to the next level and add depth to Suffolk's line-up.

Similar to Csiki-Fejer, Hunter and Malm have each taken home academic all-league awards from the CCC (Fall 2019) and GNAC (2019-20).

"With another large freshmen class I know I can rely on them to lead and set an example for our new runners," said Feldman.
