Csiki-Mejer Takes First, Men’s Cross Country Places Fourth at Early Bird Invitational

KEENE, N.H. – Matyas Csiki-Fejer picked up right where he left off a year ago as the sophomore sprinted to a first-place finish at Keene State's Early Bird Invitational to set the Suffolk men's cross country team's pace and help the Rams capture fourth Saturday afternoon.

The sophomore captain topped the 124-runner field thanks to a 5:06, 5k pace for a total time of 15:49.2, 26 seconds faster than second-place finish Jacob Movsessian of Fitchburg State.

Cole Bolduc made his name known in his collegiate debut as the rookie Ram clocked in at 17:16.3, good for 21st overall.

Csiki-Fejer's co-captains Hunter Toyoda and Nic Malm kept pace with one another. The former finished 28th with a time of 17:41.0, while the latter came through the finisher's chute 3.8 seconds later to place 30th.

Ryan Buchanan was right behind Malm in 31st thanks to his time of 17:47.1, which rounded out the Rams' scorers.

Overall, the top five Rams combined for a team score of 111 for fourth place. Springfield's 60 was good enough to win the event with Fitchburg State (62) and Eastern Connecticut State (85) edging out Suffolk for second and third, respectively.

Keoni Geers and Byron Deily also ran in the Granite State this weekend. Geers' 18-minute flat put the sophomore in 37th. Deily crossed the finish line in 18:16.9 to finish 42nd.

Suffolk will rest for two weeks before heading to the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday, Sept. 21.
