BOSTON – In its final action before the GNAC Championships, the Suffolk men's cross country team put together a third-place showing at the Suffolk Invite at Franklin Park Saturday afternoon.
In a field that featured five of Suffolk's GNAC counterparts the blue-and-gold's combined score of 82 had the Rams finished ahead of each of their league foes. Overall, Suffolk placed just behind the invite's winner Division II's Tiffin (40) and Wentworth (71). Thus far this season, Suffolk has faced every conference competitor except Norwich and has not lost to any league opponents.
The invite dueled as the inaugural Battle for Boston Commons, which is a head-to-head race pitting Suffolk against its neighbor. The Rams captured the first-ever event with a perfect score, 15-40.
Individually, freshman Matyas Csiki-Fejer crossed the 8k tape in 27:05 just 44 seconds shy of Tiffin's Stephen Korir, who captured the individual crown, to finish as the 152-runner field's runner up.
Rookie Roth Santos placed 14th thanks to a time of 28:31.
From there, Rams took 21 through 24 as Nick Malm (28:55), Jonah Flores (28:58), Hunter Toyoda (28:59) and Keonia Geers (29:00) finished one after another.
Joseph Robinson (51st – 30:33), Arthur Lacerda (62nd – 31:34) and Nicholas Nunez (115th – 37:49) also took the course for the blue-and-gold.
The invite served as final prep for Suffolk before the 2018 GNAC Championships, which are set for Saturday, Oct. 27 in Standish, Maine, at SJC Course.
