Men’s Cross Country Wins Suffolk Duals, Downs Lasell and Newbury

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – The Suffolk men's cross country team lifted the lid on its 2018 campaign in winning fashion Friday afternoon as the Rams secured a pair of 5k victories at the Suffolk Duals hosted by the blue-and-gold at the Great Barrington Fairgrounds.  

In head-to-head, dual action, Suffolk defeated Lasell, 16-47, and ran past Newbury, 15-48. In the battle between the Lasers and Nighthawks, Newbury prevailed, 25-30.  

The first four runners through the finisher's chute all donned blue-and-gold with freshman Matyas Csiki-Fejer, who clocked in with a 17:35.1, 15.6seconds ahead of second-place finisher, classmate Roth Santos.  

Rams' rookies Kevin Torres and Nick Malm crossed the tap 4.7 seconds apart from one another to finish third and fourth, respectively. Torres ran a 18:19.3 5k with Malm finishing the race in 18:24.0. 

Hunter Toyoda (18:45.8), Keoni Geers (19:41.7) and Jonah Flores (20:23.1) all placed inside the top 10 in their Suffolk debuts. Toyoda took sixth with Geers and Flores finishing one after the other for eighth and ninth, respectively.  

Arthur Lacerda made his Suffolk debut with a 12th-place performancethanks to time of 20:39.3.  

Sophomore Nicholas Nunez wrapped up the Rams' runners on the course with a time of 24:23.1, good for 17th in the field of 21. 

Suffolk is back in action Saturday, Sept. 15 when it competes at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
