Sean Collier Invitational Up Next for Outdoor Track & Field

BOSTON – Suffolk men's and women's outdoor track & field has its final prep before the conference championship this weekend at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational. Action gets underway Saturday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m.

THE FIELD
Nearly 30 competes will compete at MIT's Sheri Don Morrison Track. It will be a mini CCC Championship prep as the Rams' conference counterparts Endicott, Gordon and Roger Williams are in the field, as well as regional powerhouse and host MIT along with Amherst, Babson, Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis, Bridgewater State, Brown, Castleton, Dartmouth, Emmanuel, Fitchburg State, Framingham State, Franklin Pierce, Harvard, Lasell, Maine, Northeastern, Plymouth State, Regis, Rhode Island College, Simmons, St. Anselm, Wesleyan and WPI. 

RAMS TO WATCH

  • In the discus, Sharaden Caldwell will look to build upon her school record performance and qualify for NCAA Division III New England's. Divinety Johnson will be in contention for the school record in the event as well. 
  • In the hammer, Gracie O'Connell and Caldwell will both look to move up the CCC rankings, while freshman Emma Withers will make her collegiate debut in the event.
  • On the track, Hilma Ortega will be looking to take back the outdoor school record in the 100 hurdles from teammate Catherine Madden, who became the first Ram in program history to earn a spot at regionals in the event a weekend ago. 
  • Sydney Fogg will be looking to qualify in the 1500. The senior currently sits second in the conference and is less than a second from qualifying. 
  • Tim Barry aims to get his qualifying time in the 800. Kely Maloney and Evan Wright will join him in the 800. Wright posted a personal record last week at the Silfen Invitational and should be able to shed even more time off this weekend. 
  • Turner Mitchell will be competing in the 100 and 200 in his final regular season track meet at Suffolk. 
  • Joshua Durand will be attempting to dip under 53 seconds in the 400 for the first time in his collegiate career. 
  • Gavin Reid will be jumping in his final regular season meet. He will be in the long jump and triple jump. 

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams will vie for the Commonwealth Coast Conference crown next week, April 25-27. Action starts Thursday with the steeplechase at Gordon with the remainder of the league championship on tap for Friday and Saturday at Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
