WENHAM, Mass. – Suffolk men's outdoor track & field turned in a fourth-place performance at the 2023 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships over the weekend at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex.
The Rams combined for 95 points to finish just outside the podium that was topped by Roger Williams (175) and saw the host Gordon (122) and Wentworth (103) claim second and third, respectively.
Suffolk earned points in a dozen different events including steeplechase (2), 200 (1), 400 (4), 800 (13), 1500 (27), 5000 (11), 4x100 (6), 4x400 (6), pole vault (3), long jump (4), javelin (6) and hammer throw (12).
Student-athletes who placed first (gold medalist), second (silver medalist) or third (bronze medalist) in an event earned all-conference first-team, second-team and third-team honors.
In the 1500, Suffolk claimed every spot in the top six except fourth. All Rams claimed spots on the podium. Tim Barry(4:03.50) was gold medalist with Hayden Green (4:09.38) and Luke Sikora (4:10.20) rounded out the top three. Kely Maloney and Jadan Wencesalo rounded out the Rams in the event in fifth and sixth, respectively. Barry also won the 800 (1:56.31).
Thomas Novy topped the 5000 field. Both of Suffolk's relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x400 finished third. Joshua Durand ran on both squads along with David Bowes. Turner Mitchell and Trey Maroon joined in the 100 and Cole Bolduc and Barry rounded out the 400 team.
In the hammer throw, Frank Irizarry threw his way to the podium with a third-place finish. Joshua Smith and Michael Power contributed points as well with a fourth and fifth place showing, respectively.
Edward Abouzeid collected a bronze medal in the javelin.
Next weekend, May 5-6, the Rams who qualified will compete at the New England Division III Regional Championships at Blake Track in Springfield, Massachusetts.
