BOSTON – After capturing the inaugural indoor GNAC Championship and having its spring season canceled, head coach Will Feldman has announced that the quartet of juniors in Michael Balestra, Matyas Csiki-Fejer, Robert Solari and Hunter Toyoda will return to their roles as captains of the Suffolk men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams.
"Our men's track & field team is in great hands," Feldman said. "I couldn't ask for better leaders than Matyas, Hunter, Robert, and Mike. They've been the pillars of the program from its inception. All four were part of my first recruiting class, and they have lived up to and exceeded my expectations. They work tirelessly at their events, and work even harder when it comes to building a championship culture amongst the team."
Balestra has anchored Suffolk's throwers for the last two seasons. Solari headlines the Rams' sprinters and jumpers with Csiki-Fejer and Toyoda holding down the distance runners.
Feldman continued, "We do not win a GNAC Indoor Championship last season without the leadership of those four young men. That championship is because of the culture they've created and the standard they have set for the team. They've seen their hard work pay off with a conference championship, and I know they are even more determined than ever to push themselves and the team to the next level."
All four were a part of a historic indoor New England appearance a year ago that saw the Rams send the most individuals to the regional race in program history. As a group, they are responsible for a pair of all-region honors, eight individual GNAC Champions, and 15 all-league honors including GNAC Track Athlete of the Year, GNAC Field Athlete of the Year, GNAC Track Rookie of the Year and GNAC Field Rookie of the Year.
Suffolk's fourth indoor season has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, hopes for a spring campaign are high.
