Men’s Track & Field Qualifies Pair for New England Championships at Tufts’ Snowflake Opener 

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – In its second-ever season opener, Suffolk men's outdoor track & field saw two student-athletes produce NCAA Division III New England qualifying worth performances at the Tufts' Snowflake Opener at Dussault Track Saturday.  

Matyas Csiki-Fejer, who has stand-out accomplishments in each season – cross country and indoor track & Field – punched his ticket to the regional tournament in the 1500 meter. The Saint Louis, Missouri, native clocked in at 4:00.15, good enough for third place in the event, in a field of 57, fifth best in New England and 32nd across Division III. Hunter Toyoda (4:32.49),Keoni Geers (4:33.99), Nicholas Malm (4:35.97), and Kevin Torres (4:39.57) also competed on the 1500-meter course.  

Michael Balestra sealed up his spot at New England's in the hammer throw, the first-ever Ram to qualify across indoor and outdoor track & field in the event. The freshman from Lincoln, Rhode Island, finished second out of 31 competitors behind a toss of 45.76 meters, the fifth-best throw in the region in 2019. 

Saliah Aiman (56.11) and Ben Cvitkusic (1:03.79) each ran in the 400-meter dash, while Joseph Robinson (2:10.88) and Jonah Flores (2:12.73) competed in the 800-meter dash.  

Robert Solari tried his hands in the high jump and tied for seventh with a jump of 1.80 meters. Michael Power participated in both the shot put (9.50 M) and discuss throw (27.97).  

As a team, the 11 Rams combined for a score of 15.0, which put Suffolk in 12th of the 18 squads in the field.  

Suffolk is back in action next weekend when it takes its talents to the Regis Spring Classic Friday, April 5.
