Men’s Indoor Track & Field Shines at New Balance Collegiate Showdown

BOSTON – One Ram qualified for New Englands and 10 from Suffolk men's indoor track & field rewrote personal records at the New Balance Collegiate Showdown Saturday at the Track at New Balance.  

QUALIFIERS

  • Michael Makiej earned his spot in New Englands in the high jump behind a 1.90-meter clearance. 

RAMS RECORDS

  • Michael Nossek and Joshua Durand both rewrote their own personal records in the 60 and 200. Nossek notched a 7.08 in the 60 and a 22.89 in the 200, while Durand ran the 60 in 7.41 and the 200 in 23.98. 
  • Like Nossek and Durand, Cormac O'Brien had a career-high in the 200 with a 26.03 showing. 
  • Ioan Pereira produced a personal-best of 55.10 in the 400. 
  • Kely Maloney not only logged a career-high in the 600, but his time of 1:28.08 was good for a Rams record as well. 
  • Michael Najarian was the only distance Suffolk student-athlete to notch a PR with a 10:39.22 in the 3k. 
  • Tighe Hosman hurled to a personal-best in the 60 hurdles with a 9.11 showing.
  • Makiej reset his own program record in the high jump when he cleared 1.90 meters and Nico Carrillo matched a career-best of 1.65 in the same event. 
  • Connor Brown heaved the shot put a personal-best 9.19 meters.  

RAMS RELAYS

  • The foursome of Durand, Maloney, Hosman and Nossek combined for a 3:38.34 in the 4x400. 

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Nossek turned in a fifth-place performance in the 60 with a finals time of 7.11 after qualifying with a performance of 7.08. to anchor the seven Suffolk runners in the event. Durand (7.41) and Pereira (7.58 and Nico Carrillo (7.65) took spots in the top-20, while Brendan Eddy (7.83), O'Brien (7.94) and Hosman (7.96) donned blue-and-gold in the event as well. 
  • Nosskek paced the Rams' contingent in the 200 as well. He finished seventh with a 22.89. Suffolk was represented by Durand (23.98), Pereira (24.54), Michael Frodelius (25.56), Eddy (25.59) and O'Brien (26.03) made the half lap around the track also. 
  • Durand placed 12th in the 400 with a 53.14 showing. Pereira's PR of 55.10 put the senior in 19th. 
  • Maloney secured fourth in the 600 with. 1:28.08 time. 
  • Patrick Lambe (2:10.96) and Matthew McGoldrick (2:17.10) ran the 800. 
  • Hayden Green (4:35.51) and Declan Shannon (4:51.39) competed in the mile, while Connor Hawyard (9:27.80) and Najarian (10:39.22) ran the 3k. 
  • Highe was the runner-up in the 60 hurdles with a 9.11 effort.  

JUMPERS JIST

  • Makiej jumped to second in the high jump with a 1.90, while Carrillo slid into fifth in the event with a 1.66-meter showing. 
  • Joshua Catino finished fifth in the pole vault with a. 3.55-meter performance.
  • Clinton Oreofe (5.44) and Frodelius (5.18) competed in the long jump.

THROWERS THOUGHTS

  • Brown's 9.19-meter shot put shove was good for 13th. 
  • Elijah Brown took ninth in the weight throw with a 12.65-meter heave. 

YOU'RE NEW HERE

  • Shannon competed indoors for the first time in his collegiate career.
