NORTON, Mass. – Tim Barry earned his spot at New Englands over the weekend at the Wheaton Pre-Post Season Invite.
Barry cruised to a 4:19.86 mile to not only top the 17-runner field, but to seal the sophomore's ticket to NCAA Division III Regionals, which are on tap next weekend, Feb. 25-26, in Middlebury, Vermont. He was one of seven Rams in the event as Thomas Novy (4:35.17), Connor Hayward (4:47.62), Conor Garrity (4:51.99), Jacob Dubin (4:54.01), Zachary Martin (4:57.19) and Thomas Fidrocki (5:29.22) ran the event as well.
The Rams were well-represented in the 800 as well with a half dozen Suffolk student-athletes making two laps around the track in Kely Maloney (2:05.70), Selvin Backert (2:06.87), Justin Turner (2:08.10), Evan Wright (2:08.61), Nico Miele (2:12.27) and Joseph Robinson (2:18.84). Maloney and Backert highlighted the group with top five finishes. Maloney claimed third, while Backert was two spots behind him.
Joshua Durand made one lap around the track, while Turner Mitchell did a half lap in the 200. Mitchell also participated in the 60m dash.
Carter Nevulis and Edward Abouzeid tried their hands in the jumping events. Nevulis long jump cleared 6.40, good for fifth in the 14-jumper field. Abouzeid combined three leaps to a 10.88-meter distance to take ninth in the triple jump.
Michael Balestra shined in the weight throw as his 14.15-meter toss was good to take first in the 10-competitor field that also featured Matthew Smith, who slid into sixth with a. 12.36-meter throw.
Eddie McCarthy rounded out Rams' throwers with an eighth-place showing in the shot put.
