MEDFORD, Mass. – Matyas Csiki-Fejer sealed his spot in another event at New Englands to highlight Suffolk men's indoor track & field's performance at Tufts' Branwen Smith-King Invitational Saturday at Gantcher Field House.
Csiki-Fejer punched his ticket to regionals in the mile. The sophomore from Saint Louis, Missouri, put together the top time in the GNAC this season, finishing the event in 4:25.50 to finish ninth in the field of 49. With that qualification, Csiki-Fejer has reserved his place at a pair of events at regionals as he qualified in the 3K at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener Dec. 7, 2019.
In addition to Csiki-Fejer on the mile course, Hunter Toyoda (29th – 4:48.14), Liam Breen (40th – 4:59.00), Joseph Robinson (42nd – 5:05.58) and Keoni Geers (43rd – 5:06.26) also represented the Rams in the event.
Connor Baston put together the fastest time in the league in two different events over the weekend. The freshman clocked a 7.40 in finals to take 12th overall in the 60-meter dash after producing a 7.31 preliminary time. The Bristol, Connecticut product excelled in the 200 as well. The freshman ran the half lap in 23.62 to finish 12th in the field of 58.
Connor Abbotoni (24th – 24.32) joined his classmate in the event as well along with Ben Isaak (57th – 27.40), who made his track & field debut.
Robet Solari, who ran the 200, had the top finish in the conference in two other events, the 400 and long jump, respectively. The sophomore ran around the track once in 52.25 to take 10th in the field of 41 and cleared a5.89 meters in the long jump to finish 19th out of 35 opponents.
Abbotoni (22nd – 54.42) and Nicholas Nunez (38th – 58.38) were in the 400 field as well.
Cole Bolduc and Justin Turner turned in top-12 performances in the 800. The former's 2:06.80 was good for 10th, while the latter took 12th behind a time of 2:07.69.
Tristan Smith rounded out the Rams runners in the 60-meter hurdles (21st – 10.13).
In the field events, Michael Balestra continued his stellar sophomore season. In an event with the top 10 weight throwers in New England, he put together a 15.06-meter throw to take eighth overall in the field of 37.
Michael Power participated in the shot put. His toss of 9.27 meters was good for 36th.
Suffolk is set for the Panther Invitational at Plymouth State this Saturday, Feb. 8.
