BOSTON – Coming off its first victory of the season, Suffolk men's tennis looks to take that momentum into its Saturday, April 1 showdown at Nichols. First serve of the Commonwealth Coast Conference match at the Blodgett Tennis Center at the Pomfret School in Pomfret, Connecticut, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's tennis picked up its first victory of the 2023 season as it put together a thrilling 5-4 comeback to take down Bridgewater State at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Center.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk brings a 1-2 overall record and 0-2 conference mark into Saturday's action. 

Diego Hernandez-Pons holds a 2-1 record exclusively in the fourth singles spot to be the winningest Ram thus far. Mehdi Mered has played all three matches as the Rams ace and is 1-2. Daniel Dayn (1-2) and Mikhail Reilly (1-2) have picked up singles victories as well. Dayn has played all three matches in the second spot, while Reilly has held down court five. 

In doubles, the team made up of Mered and Hernandez-Pons is the only pair to pick up a win so far. The freshman and senior are 1-2 as the second tandem. 

BISON BREAKDOWN
Nichols swept Wentworth, 9-0, last Sunday to move to 4-8 on the year and 1-0 in CCC play. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Nichols renewed a rivalry a year ago, meeting for the 15th time overall and first since 2003. 
  • Suffolk trails the all-time series, which dates to 1969, 4-11. 
  • The Rams have fallen in six straight matches against Nichols.
  • Suffolk aims for its first win over the Bison since a 7-2 decision April 29, 1995. 
  • As the away team, Suffolk is 2-8 versus Nichols. 
  • There have been four shutouts in the series, all belong to the Bison. The last came a year ago, April 19, 2022.

Suffolk is scheduled to start its home calendar Wednesday, April 5 when it entertains Western New England at Belmont Hill at 6:30 p.m.
