Two Rams, Men’s Tennis Earn ITA Academic Awards

ITA RELEASE

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Suffolk men's tennis team and a pair of players, junior Hasan Esrawi and sophomore Rodrigo Carrascosa, picked up academic accolades from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Rams garnered the Team Academic Award, while Esrawi and Carrascosa garnered Scholar-Athlete honors, the national organization announced Wednesday afternoon.

Each season the ITA recognized students who maintain a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and earn varsity letter status. Esrawi earned the feat for the third consecutive campaign, while Carrascosa took home the nod for the first time. Suffolk now has 15 all-time ITA Scholar-Athletes, seven of which have been honored over the last three seasons.

In 2021, 772 Division III student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes including 16 representatives from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with Endicott (3), Nichols (4), Roger Williams (3) and Western New England (4) joining the Rams on the national list. Team wise, the blue-and-gold's rackets picked up the program academic accolade for just the second time, first since the 2019 season.

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above on a 4.00 scale and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year. Suffolk's six-player roster compiled a 3.262 GPA.

Suffolk is one of four CCC programs to be acknowledged for its academic excellence with Endicott, Nichols and Western New England joining the Rams on the 111-school list of NCAA Division III programs that received the recognition this year. For a complete list of 2020-21 honorees, click here
