Men’s Tennis to Host UMass Boston Thursday Night

BOSTON – After its first two road games of the season were postponed this week, the Suffolk men's tennis team will stay home Thursday night to host UMass Boston in a make-up match rescheduled from March 31.

LAST TIME OUT

Suffolk is off to a 2-2 start through its first four matches of the 2016 campaign, all of which the Rams have hosted at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols. In the final match of the season-opening homestand last Saturday, Suffolk dropped an 8-1 decision to an unbeaten Emerson squad.

The Rams started out with losses in the first two sets in doubles to start Saturday's match, but the pair of Kevin Clavijo and Jose Gonzalez came back to take an 8-2 victory in the final set over Emerson's Samir Beria and Matt Jepsky. The Lions went on to sweep Suffolk in singles play.

A BIT ABOUT THE BEACONS

UMass Boston opened its spring season on March 13 and will head into Thursday's match at Suffolk with a 1-5 record through its first six contests of 2016. The Beacons are 14-35 as a team in singles play this season with Jack Wang and Josh Bhasin boasting 3-7 and 2-5 individual records, respectively. In doubles, UMass is 6-20.

Suffolk is 13-5 in matches against the Beacons dating back to 1995.

Following Thursday's match, the Rams will remain at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols for its last regular season home match to host UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m.
