Men's Tennis Top Bridgewater 8-1

The Suffolk University Men's Tennis team defeated the Bridgewater State University Bears in non-league action 8-1 on Thursday evening at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols in Cambridge.

Suffolk opened the contest sweeping all three doubles matches while they also took five of six singles games to move to a 4-1 overall record on the season.

Four players earned multiple wins on the evening for Suffolk.

Senior Marc Winkler (Caracas, Venezuela, ) and junior Calixto Romero (Lima, Peru) improved to a perfect 5-0 record on the year as a tandem taking the top doubles game by an 8-2 score.

Both Winkler and Romero took their individual games.

Winkler defeated senior Sean Bleau (North Dighton, Mass.) by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 in the number one singles game.

Romero defeated junior Michael Delisle (Berkley, Mass.) by similar scores of 6-2 and 6-2 in the number two individual game.

Freshman Alsono Vela (Chelsea, Mass.) and sophomore Francesco Saia (Wakefield, Mass.) also earned multiple wins on the evening for Suffolk.

Vela and Saia partnered for an 8-0 victory in the second doubles game. Vela was also a winner in the third singles game, while Saia took the fourth singles contest.

Freshman Anton Boubnov (St. Louis, Mo.) won Suffolk's fifth singles contest as he was a winner in game number with set victories of consecutive 6-3 scores.

Sophomore Jacob Duggan (Sharon, Mass.) and junior Vincent Le (Wilmington, Mass.) rounded out the card for Suffolk as they won the third doubles game by a score of 8-6.

Junior Andrew Narcisco (East Bridgewater, Mass.) picked up the Bears lone match point of the evening as he was victorious in the sixth singles game. Narcisco won the match going to a third set tiebreaker coming away with a 10-8 victory.

The loss was Bridgewater's fifth straight to start the 2015 season. They will be back in action on Saturday when they host UMass Boston at 1:00pm.

Suffolk will host Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday at 11:00am.
