Men's Tennis Grab 6-3 Victory Over Rhode Island College

The Suffolk University Men's Tennis team won for the second time in as many matches to start the 2014 season with a 6-3 victory over the Rhode Island College Anchormen on Tuesday evening.

Junior Marc Winkler (Caracas, Venezuela) won a pair of matches on the evening for Suffolk. Winkler took the top individual match with 6-0, 6-3 victories in the number one singles game.

Earlier in the evening, Winkler partered with sophomore Calixto Romero (Lima, Peru) for an 8-6 victory in the first tandem match of the evening.

Romero was also victorious in the second singles game with straight 6-1 wins in his individual contest.

Suffolk took four of the six singles games on the night. Seniors Drew Reilly (Boston, Mass.) and Vasilli Stroganov (Hoersholm, Germany) rounded out the field for the Rams winning the number three and four singles matches respectively.

Reilly was also a multiple winner on the evening as he teamed with freshman Francesco Saia (Wakefield, Mass.) for an 8-2 victory in the number two doubles match.

The Anchormen took three matches on the evening, including a pair of singles contests.

Freshman Seongkyeong Kim (North Providence, R.I.) took the fifth singles match as his 11-9 victory in the third set of his match was the decider.

Junior Gowin Nathawongsa (Johnston, R.I.) earned 6-2, 6-4 victories in the number six singles game.

Freshmen Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Mohammed Kattan (Cranston, R.I.) partnered for a 9-7 victory in the number three doubles contest to round out the field for Rhode Island College.

Tuesday's setback leaves Rhode Island College at an 0-2 mark to start the season. The Anchormen will be back in action on Thursday evening when they travel to Curry College in non-league action at 3:00pm.

Suffolk will host UMass-Boston at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols on Thurday evening beginning at 7:00pm.
