The Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision against Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Moses Brown Courts on Saturday morning.
Suffolk raced out to the 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. The Rams continued to control the match with five wins in the six singles contests en route to the 8-1 victory. Junior Drew Pontillo (Slingerlands, N.Y.) recorded the lone win for Johnson & Wales, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 spot. Marc Winkler posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles for Suffolk and teamed with Chris Staley for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Staley also had a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles for the Rams.
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 5-5 on the season and 2-2 in the GNAC while Suffolk remains undefeated at 9-0 on the year and 4-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, April 19th when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference contest, starting at 3:30 p.m.
