Tennis Opens Season With 7-2 Victory

The Suffolk University Men's tennis team opened up the 2012 season with a 7-2 victory over Emerson College on Saturday evening.

Senior Christopher Staley (London, England) picked up multiple wins in the match to lead the Rams past the Lions in a rematch of last year's conference championship. Staley was a winner in straight sets with 6-1 scores in the number two position and teamed with sophomore Aaron Lau (Hong Kong, China) for a 8-5 victory in the top doubles match.

Senior Albert Buruga (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Vassili Stroganov (Hoersholm, Germany) were the other multiple winners on the evening for Suffolk.

Buruga was a 6-3, 6-2 victor in the fourth singles match after teaming with sophomore Drew Reilly (Boston, Mass.) for an 8-3 doubles victory. Stroganov took the fifth singles match, 6-0, 6-2 as he and junior Dan Kelly (Nashua, N.H.) were 8-2 winners in the third doubles match.

Suffolk controlled doubles play sweeping all three matches and were victorious in four of six singles matches.

Junior Dachuan Zhu(Beijing, China) picked up the other Suffolk victory in singles play as he was a 6-2, 6-1 winner in the sixth and final match of the evening.

The Rams will be back on the court on Thursday afternoon as they take on Wentworth College in non-conference action at Curry College beginning at 3:30pm.
