Men's Tennis Roll Past Emerson, 8-1

The Suffolk University Men's Tennis team moved to 3-0 on the season as they topped Emerson College (0-6, 0-1 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon, 8-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

In the rematch of last year's conference tournament finals, the Rams took control winning five of six singles matches and taking all three doubles sets for their second win this season in conference play.

Junior Chris Staley (London, England) moved to 3-0 in the second doubles position for the Rams winning in straight sets, 6-0. Staley and junior Sean Cullen (Wells, Me.) picked up their third win as a tandem in the top doubles match as they were 8-4 winners. Cullen, the top Suffolk singles player won his match, 6-0, 6-2.

Sophomore Harlan Strader (Marblehead, Mass.) was also a multiple winner on the day for the Rams as he won his match in the third singles game in consecutive 6-0 sets. Stader and Albert Beruga then partnered for a 8-0 shutout in the third doubles game.

Senior John Samander (Curacao, Netherlands) won a 10-8 tiebreak in the third set of the fourth singles play for his third victory over the season. Samander and his doubles partner freshman Hubert Cromback (Paris, France) moved to 3-0 on the season the Rams number two doubles team with a 8-4 victory.

Senior Justin Ayoub (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the day for the Rams with his third singles victory of the year as he won 6-4, 6-1 in the fifth singles position.

Suffolk will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Rhode Island College to take on the Anchormen at 3:30pm in non-conference action.
