Men's Tennis Roll Past Emerson, 8-1

The Suffolk University Men’s Tennis team pushed their season record to a perfect 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play defeating the Emerson College Lions on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s GNAC Tournament finals.

Senior Diego Alvarado (Boston, Mass.) completed the hat trick on the week finishing a perfect 3-0 in singles play as he was victorious in the top spot defeating Emerson’s Mark Jackman, 6-0, 6-2.

Freshman Harlan Strader (Marblehead, Mass.) pushed his season singles record to 6-0 as he was a winner in the four spot, 7-5, 6-2. Both Strader and Alvarado also partnered in the top doubles spot for an 8-4 victory.

Sophomore Chris Staley (London, England) topped the Lions’ Dan Lapidus in the two position, 6-3, 6-1. Staley and partner John Samander (Curacao, Netherlands) moved to 6-0 as a tandem in doubles play winning their set 8-0. Samander also remained perfect on the year in singles play as he was a 7-6, 6-3 winner in the fifth singles spot.

Senior Jared Orkin (Newton, Mass.) picked up two victories as well. In singles play, Orkin topped Garrett Mercer, 6-2, 6-2 in the three position and partnered with junior Justin Ayoub (Brooklyn, N.Y.) for an 8-2 doubles match win.

The Rams will be back in action again this week as they host Bridgewater State College on Thursday evening at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols before rounding out their GNAC regular season schedule on Saturday at Norwich University.
