Men's Tennis Open 2010 Season With Victory

The Suffolk University Men's Tennis team opened the 2010 season with a 9-0 sweep over the Johnson & Wales Wildcats in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Thursday afternoon.

Senior Diego Alvarado (Boston, Mass.) earned two victories for the Rams on the day. Alvarado, playing in the one position in singles play defeated Devin Kitterick, 6-3, 6-0 and then partnered with freshman Harlan Strader (Marblehead, Mass.) for a victory in the top doubles spot, 8-2.

Defending GNAC Rookie of the Year, Chris Staley (London, England) jumped out to a 2-0 overall record on the season, winning his singles set, 6-1, 6-1 over Tucker Plimpton in the two spot for the Rams. Staley and junior John Samander (Curacao, Netherlands) partnered in the second doubles position for an 8-1 victory.

Junion Justin Ayoub (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also picked up two victories on the day. Ayoub was a winner in singles play going to a 10-4 tiebreaker in the third set over the Wildcats' James Adriano in the four position. Ayoub and freshman Daniel Kelly (Nashua, N.H.) also paired together in the third doubles match for a 9-7 win for the Rams.

Samander and Strader were also 2-0 on the day winning their singles sets along with their doubles matches, while freshman Dachaun Zhu (Beijing, China) earned his first collegiate victory in singles play topping Drew Potillo, 6-4, 6-2 in the sixth singles spot.

The Rams will be back in action on Thursday April 1st as they travel to Wentworth in non-league action beginning at 4:00pm.
