Men's Tennis Win Playoff Opener

The Suffolk University Men's Tennis team was victorious Thursday night in the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference over Norwich University, 6-1.

Suffolk swept through singles play as they won all four match sets. Junior Diego Alvardo was victorious in the one position defeating Peter Hooper, 6-2, 6-4. Alvarado has now won a team high seven matches in singles play in 2009. Freshman Christopher Staley (London, England) continued his dominance in the two spot for the Rams as he took care of Collin Hyte, 6-3 and 7-6. Junior Jared Orkin (Newton, MA) won in the three position for the Rams as he defeated Graham Oliveira 6-0, 6-1. Senior Greg Freeman (Beacon, NY)picked up the win in the number four position as he defeated Travis Tyler, 6-0, 6-4.

Norwich's lone victory came in the first doubles position as Hyte and Hooper teamed up to take down Alvarado and Freeman by a score of 8-2. Staley and sophomore John Samander (Curacao) teamed up for an 8-0 win in the second spot and Orkin and senior Nisarg Patel (India) rounded out the three doubles position with a 8-1 victory.

The Rams will now take on Emerson College Saturday evening at 6:30 pm at the Weymouth Country Club in the GNAC Finals.
