Men's Tennis Earn First Victory of Season

Cambridge, MA - The Suffolk University Men's Tennis team (1-1, 1-0 GNAC) picked up their first win of the 2009 season on Saturday defeating the Norwich University Cadets by a score of 8-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match. The match was the first GNAC play of the season for Suffolk, who enter 2009 as the preseason favorite to win the league.

Freshman Christopher Staley (London, England) was victorious playing in the two position, winning by scores of 6-1, and 6-4 over Collin Hyte. Staley also paired with sophomore Jared Orkin (Newton, MA) in doubles play to win 8-5. Orkin won his singles match 6-0, 6-4 in the three position for the Rams. Senior Garrett Freeman (Beacon, NY) was victorious in both singles play and doubles play as well. Freeman won 6-1, 6-0 over Bobby Whitbeck, and partnered with junior Diego Alvarado (Boston, MA) to take down Travis Tyler and Peter Hooper in doubles play 8-5.

Sophomore Justin Ayoub (Brooklyn, NY) played out of the four spot for Suffolk winning 6-0, 6-2, while senior Greg Garrison (Beacon, NY) blanked Brad Hollingsworth, 6-0, 6-0 in the six position. Sophomore Nick Pratt (Sutton, MA) and senior Timothy Leveroni (Milton, MA) partnered in doubles play defeating Hollingsworth and Graham Oliveira,  9-7.

Suffolk will take on Emerson College on Saturday, March 28th at the Winchester Indoor Lawn Tennis Club at 5:00 pm in a GNAC match.
