Western New England Takes Down Men’s Soccer, 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk men's soccer was handed its first CCC loss of the season, a 2-1 setback to Western New England Tuesday afternoon at Supernant Field. The Golden Bears built a two-goal lead that the Rams could not climb out of.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Western New England 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (7-4-2, 2-1-1 CCC) | Western New England (3-6-3, 3-1-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Bears got on the board 33:05 into the action. Shay O'Neill lofted a pass to WNE's Mike Riley on the left side of the field. Riley's high kick sent the ball to the opposite side of the field and drove it into the back of the net to give the host a 1-0 lead.

The scoring stayed still until the 70th minute. In an attempted Suffolk clear, a yellow card to Carter Van Buskirk gave the Golden Bears possession in the Rams' zone. The free kick was sent to the near post and found Jack Leland, who set-up a scoring header by Sam Riley.

Down 2-0, Taj Jensen eliminated the shutout as the junior captain responded unassisted 9:43 later. Diego Pierantozzi's initial attempt was blocked. Suffolk's sophomore picked up the rebound and fired again. Pierantozzi looked to put another shot on target but didn't get enough behind it. Instead, the rock landed in front of a Brady Sorensen, who slipped it out to a waiting Jensen for a one-timer.

The goal sliced the deficit in half with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. The Rams were unable to put another shot on net the rest of the way to suffer their first conference loss of the year.
