Men’s Soccer Closes Regular-Season with 1-1 Draw at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – Suffolk men's soccer forced a 1-1 stalemate with Salve Regina Tuesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Toppa Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk chased one goal after Salve Regina struck first in the 13 minutes. Kasey Lang produced the game-opening goal at the 12:53 minute mark to force the Rams to play catchup. 

Comeback the blue-and-gold did as Jeremy Cooke leveled the playing just about 13 minutes later. 

The score stood still from there as Xander Balog took care of business in the Rams cage and Aidan FIgueria and Troy Maurer teamed up for the Seahawks to keep things even as the final buzzer rang.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Balog notched 14 saves in the draw. 
  • Both of Salve Regina's goalies, Figueira and Mauerer had four saves.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Cooke scored Suffolk's goal. 
  • Salve Regina commanded shots, 23-9, including a 15-9 edge in shots on target. 
  • The Seahawks had one more corner than the Rams, 6-5.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk scored its first goal against Salve Regina since 2016. 
  • The Rams and Seahawks tied for the first time in program history. 
  • Suffolk moved to 1-7-0 all-time against SRU. 
  • Cooke racked up his first collegiate point, a game-tying goal.
  • Balog logged a career-high 14 saves, which are the most stops by a netminder since Kyle Van Cleef picked up 14 in a 5-0 setback against Saint Joseph's (Maine), Sept. 30, 2017.
