Men’s Soccer Ties Nichols in CCC Debut, 1-1

DUDLEY, Mass. – Suffolk men's soccer and Nichols traded goals less than two minutes apart in the second half and neither managed to find the back of the net again for the CCC opener of both squads to end in a 1-1 stalemate Friday afternoon at Nichols Soccer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
All the scoring took place over a 1:32 span in the second stanza. Damon Smargon put the Rams on the board with the help of Taj Jensen at the 72:02-minute mark. Suffolk's lead was short lived, just over a minute and a half to be exact as William Savage connected on the equalizer thanks to the help of Nathan Salamon.  

The game turned over to the goalie's gloves from there. Xander Balog turned aside the pair of shots that crossed his path and Derek Axon rejected the Rams attempt on target down the stretch to keep things even at the end of regulation.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Balog tallied three saves. 
  • Axon recorded five stops.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Smargon scored Suffolk's goal. 
  • Jensen tallied one assist. 
  • Shots were nearly even with the slim edge in Suffolk's favor, 16-15. 
  • The Rams held the advantage in shots on net as well, 6-4.
