Men’s Soccer Loses at Lasell, 3-1

NEWTON, Mass. – Suffolk men's soccer slipped to Lasell, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk commanded the opening frame, but 30 minutes were removed from the clock before the blue-and-gold could capitalize. LeonardoAcosta was the boot that punched through the scoring. The sophomore struck in the 32nd minute on a penalty kick goal to give the Rams' a slim one-goal edge late in the opening half.  

Lasell responded less than three minutes later when Kevin Pitt set up Takuya Tsuji to level the playing field at 1-all.  

Tsuji's second goal of the season and day game just about nine minutes later. The unassisted strike gave the hosts a 2-1 lead as the teams' transitioned into the locker room.  

It was a tightly contested second stanza with both squads getting chances on target. The Lasers held onto their advantage and added to it in the 78th minute when Simon Nigor put his fourth goal of the year away. 

Suffolk attempted a comeback. Sunjoon Tenorio was responsible for the Rams' pair of shots on target down the stretch as the freshman peppered Jackson Burhans with two shots on target. The goalies gloves gobbled up both shots to keep the blue-and-gold quiet the rest of the way.  

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Kyle Rosa made three stops in the setback. 
  • Burhans registered seven saves for the victory.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Acosta was responsible for the Rams' lone goal. 
  • Tenorio had five shots in the outing, three of which went on goal. 
  • Suffolk outshot Lasell, 16-11, with a 9-7 edge in shots on net. 
  • The Rams hand six corners compared to the Lasers two.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Acosta scored his second goal of the season.
