Tenorio Threepeats as GNAC Rookie of the Week

WINTRHOP, Mass. – For the third straight week Sunjoon Tenorio of the Suffolk men's soccer team was recognized by the conference as GNAC Rookie of the Week after a two-goal performance in a 1-1 week for the Rams, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

The native of the Northern Mariana Islands lifted the blue-and-gold to victory in a non-conference Columbus Day clash against Mitchell. He potted the game-winner 16:10 into the outing to secure the 1-0 victory over the Mariners. Tenorio's strike marked the fifth game winner for the freshman this season.

When Suffolk returned to conference competition this weekend, he became the first-ever Ram to score against the Blue Jays in program history as the foes met for the just the second time. After a scoreless first frame, USJ got on the board first, but Tenorio responded nearly eight minutes later to level the playing field.  The tied game went into overtime, which saw the Blue Jays net the game winner with 50 seconds remaining in the extra session to setback the Rams, 2-1.

Tenorio, who is on a six-game point streak, has been responsible for half of Suffolk's 20 goals this season as the rookie has recorded 10 thus far this season. He has set up two other scores as well to have a team-leading 22 points.

Tenorio is the first Ram to be acknowledged as the best rookie over a seven day stretch three times in one season in the GNAC record books, which date back to the 2008 campaign. He is the second Suffolk student-athlete to receive a weekly nod from the league with Steven Lopez owning the best gloves over a week Sept. 30.

Tenorio and the Rams are back at it Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they pay Lasell a visit for a midweek match. Game time in Newton is set for 3:30 p.m.
