Tenorio Tabbed GNAC Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass – Suffolk men's soccer's Sunjoon Tenorio was named GNAC Rookie of the Week after a five-point performance in a 1-1 week for the Rams, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Tenorio opened the action by contributing a personal-best two-goal effort in a 6-2 offensive onslaught at Anna Maria Oct. 2. His two goals anchored the highest offensive output by the blue-and-gold since it scored seven in a 7-0 shutout of Rivier October 11, 2017. His first strike came from a diving header in the center of the box, while his second was a clam left footed strike into the bottom left corner.

The freshman from the Northern Mariana Islands followed the midweek matchup performance with another career-high as he handout out his first collegiate assist against Emmanuel. The forward set-up his classmate Emilio Tenacio for Suffolk's only goal in the 3-1 setback to the Saints Oct. 5.

Tenorio has proven himself early and often for Suffolk in his first collegiate season. He sits as the team's top scorer with five markers and one assist. Three of his goals have lifted the Rams to victory, including a pair in 1-0 outings – the home opener against Lesley, Sept. 7, and the squad's first triumph over Norwich since 2011, Sept. 25.

Tenorio is the second Ram to receive weekly recognition from the league in 2019 as Steven Lopez garnered GNAC Goalie of the Week seven days ago Sept. 30. Tenorio's first weekly accolade marks the first time a Suffolk rookie achieved the feat since Leonardo Acosta Sept. 10, 2018.

Suffolk will be back in action tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 8 when it steps out of GNAC play with another Boston battle on its docket at Wentworth. First kick is set for 7 p.m.
