Albertus Magnus Edges Men’s Soccer, 3-2, With Late Strike

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – An Albertus Magnus goal at the 85th minute broke open a 2-all tie and sent the Falcons past Suffolk men's soccer, 3-2, Wednesday night at Celentano Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2, Albertus Magnus 3
RECORD: Suffolk (2-8-1, 2-4-1 GNAC) | Albertus Magnus (3-4-3, 2-1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Midway through the first, Suffolk broke the scoreless draw thanks to an unassisted marker by James Fisher

Out of the locker rooms, Albertus rallied with back-to-back goals nine minutes apart to take a 2-1 edge. Jonathan Beaucejour leveled the playing field on a good penalty kick before Kaj Djonne put away his first goal of the year on a feed from Beaucjour to give the Falcons their first lead of the night.

Suffolk responded less than a minute after Djonne's go-ahead goal with Simon Velez Angel answering for the Rams at the 73rd minute.

As time dwindled, Albertus Magnus' Lindsay Saad took matters into his own hands and skipped the ball past Tom Bennett with less than five minutes remaining to lift the Falcons to victory.

  • Joe Russo was the backbone to Albertus' victory with a five-save effort.
