NEW LONDON, N.H. – A powerful first frame by Colby Sawyer proved to be enough to take down the Suffolk men's soccer team, who ultimately fell, 5-1, to the Chargers Tuesday afternoon at Kelsey Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colby Sawyer wasted no time to gain a one-goal lead as the Chargers scored on their first possession of the afternoon. Kevin Tracy made a move to the left and struck in the right corner of the net thanks to Yannick Gonsalves set up to put the Rams in 1-0 hole with just 37 seconds removed from the clock.  

The hosts added to their advantage 22 minutes later on an unassisted marker from Ryan Kresco. On a breakaway the Charger escaped the lone defender for a one-on-one with David Haines and put the ball past Suffolk's keeper to make it a 2-0 Colby Sawyer game.  

With just under one minute remaining in the first frame, Colby Sawyer added to its margin as Andrew Broening picked up his own rebound at the 44:20 minute mark to stretch the Chargers lead to 3-0.  

Tyler Mello started a comeback form Suffolk 51 seconds in the second stanza. The sophomore capitalized on a misplayed ball in front of the Chargers net to trim the deficit to two. 

The Chargers had other things in mind as Mason Galbato rebuilt a three-goal cushion in the 50th minute with a putback on a deflection.  

Eight minutes later Kresco added to the hosts cushion with his second strike of the day and the four-goal margin was too much ground for the Rams to make up.  

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

• Haines made three saves of 78:15 of action. 
• In relief work, Tom Bennett stopped the lone shot he faced. 
• Lucas Boetsch scooped up the victory behind a five-save performance.   

STATISTCALLY SPEAKING

• Melllo accounted for Suffolk's only score on the night. 
• Colby Sawyer held a slim edge in shots, 17-15, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on net.
• The Rams had the upper hand in corners, 5-4.  

NOTEWORTHY

• The Rams and Chargers renewed a rivalry, which began in 1990, and met for the third time ever, first since 1991. 
• Mello recorded his first collegiate goal.
