Men’s Soccer Announces 2017 Captains

BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer announced Monday that juniors Jordan Casey and Kyle Van Cleef and sophomore Jarrett Davis will lead the Rams as team captains for the 2017 season.

Casey and Davis anchor the offense that returns to the pitch for Suffolk after a season that saw the blue-and-gold win the most GNAC contests (6-3) since joining the league's ranks in 1999. Casey, an All-GNAC second-team and GNAC All-Tournament Team selection from a year ago, enters his junior season with 25 career points on eight goals and five assists. Davis, meanwhile, is coming off a GNAC Rookie of the Year campaign in which the all-conference third team honoree, led the Rams with 11 points on a team-high seven assists and two markers.

Van Cleef emerged as a natural leader for the Rams in 2016, holding down the backline in between the pipes. The junior, who's field time was limited due to injury, looks to continue to serve as a key cog in Suffolk's central defense, as well as a morale booster for the squad.

The Rams were projected to finish fourth in the GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was announced last week. Suffolk is coming off a semifinal run in the conference's postseason tournament, its ninth in the last 10 seasons.

The Rams will get the 2017 year underway on the friendly confines of James A. Sartori Stadium's turf for the third straight season as Mass. Maritime visits East Boston Memorial Park Saturday, Sept. 2. First kick is set for 1 p.m.
