Bittan Named First GNAC Corvias Player of the Week for 2016

BOSTON – Alberto Bittan picked up the first GNAC Corvias Player of the Week honor of the 2016 campaign, as the senior notched 11 points off five goals and one assist in a two-game week for Suffolk men's soccer.

In the season opener, a 3-2 setback to Newbury Sept. 1, Bittan scored both of the Rams goals, becoming the first Suffolk player to notch two goals in a single contest since Juan Lazcano Bello did so against Norwich November 11, 2011.

Three days later, the forward upstaged the season opening debut performance with his second collegiate hat trick against UMass Dartmouth. Despite falling to the Corsairs, 6-5, the three goals from Bittan helped Suffolk pour in the most goals (5) since matching that number versus Anna Maria October 13, 2014. The Venezuela product is the first Ram to net three tallies in a single game since Djibril Niang did so against the Corsairs October 28, 2014.

Bittan is responsible for 71.4 percent (5-7) of Suffolk's goals this season and is the first Ram to be honored as the conference's top weekly performer since he earned his first ever nod October 21, 2014.

Bittan and the Rams return to action this weekend when they open the GNAC portion of their schedule at Albertus Magnus Saturday, Sept. 10. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
