Lasell Drops Men's Soccer, 3-0

Three first half goals would propel the Lasell College Lasers to a 3-0 victory over the Suffolk University Rams in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer action on Wednesday evening.

Junior Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.) scored a pair of goals to increase his season total to 14, the best among GNAC scorers, as Lasell improves to a 14-1 overall mark on the season and remains undefeated in conference play on the year with a 9-0 mark.

The loss drops the Rams to a 6-9-1 mark and 3-5-1 GNAC record.

It took the Lasers just one minute to open the scoring in the contest as freshman Conor Fitzgerald (Marshfield, Mass.) broke through the Suffolk defense tallying his fifth goal of the season, and third game winning goal.

In the game's twenty-first minute Skelton built a 2-0 Lasers lead as he scored unassisted on a turnover deep in the Suffolk defensive zone.

Skelton would score again seven minutes later on a beautiful goal as he worked his way through the Suffolk defense and to the left side of the field. Once he got some spacing, Skelton blasted a shot from 15 yards away that went to the top right corner of the goal and off the post and in for the 3-0 Lasers lead.

The Rams would outshoot the Lasers 8-4 in the second period but could not take advantage of any scoring opportunities. Freshman Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) made seven stops in goal for the Lasers as picked up win number 12 of the season and third shutout of the year.

Colmenares made a point blank save late in the second half on sophomore Andres Cohen (Caracas, Venezuela) to preserve the shutout and quell a Suffolk scoring chance.

Both teams will round out their regular season conference schedule on Saturday. The Lasers will travel to St. Joseph's College of Maine for a noon matchup, while Suffolk hosts Rivier College at 8:00pm at Dilboy Stadium.
