Men's Soccer Improve to 2-0 On Young Season With Victory at UMass Boston

The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team improved to 2-0 on the young season with their second 4-1 victory of the week, this time over the UMass Boston Beacons on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Christian Gnonlonfoun (Porto-Novo, Benin) scored twice in the second half to help propel the Rams to victory, while junior Jeff Williams (Geneva, Ill.) scored his second career goal in the first half which would turn out to be the eventual game winner.

Sophomore Tyler Parmalee (Colchester, Conn.) got the scoring started twenty-five minutes into the contest as he forced a turnover in the backfield and then beat the Beacons' goalkeeper one-on-one for the game's first goal.

Williams would add on to the lead five minutes later as he flicked in a free kick off the foot of freshman Alberto Benhamu (Caracas, Venezuela).

Senior Reyn Johnson (Mangilao, Guam) would score the Beacons' lone goal of the contest in the thirty-third minute of the game to cut the Rams' lead in half at 2-1. Johnson put in a one-timer that started with a free kick by junior John DeStefano (Auburn, N.H.).

The second half was played evenly by both teams as they each registered seven shots over the course of the forty-five minutes of play.

Gnonlonfoun was the only player however to find the back of the net.

Gnonlonfoun took a feed from Benhamu at the hour mark of the game and put it in on the far post to score his first goal with the Rams. At the seventy-seven minute mark Gnonlonfoun then put home his second goal of the game in front of a wide open net that started with a header from senior Ben Rollins (Lee, N.H.), who took a cross pass from sophomore Djibril Niang (Dakar, Senegal).

Rollins now has six points in two games for the Rams (2 goals, 2 assists), while Benhamu has picked up three assists to start the season.

Freshman Nicholas Chamma (Rio de Janero, Brazil) needed to make six saves in goal for the Rams for his second victory in net for Suffolk this season.

The Rams will kick-off Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday in their upcoming contest as they host Anna Maria College at Dilboy Stadium at 2:00pm.
