Cohen's Late Goal Pushes Suffolk to 2-1 Victory

The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team (5-9-1, 4-4-1 GNAC) topped the Norwich University Cadets (7-8, 4-4 GNAC) by a 2-1 margin in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday evening.

Freshman Andres Cohen (Caracas, Venezuela) scored the game-winner with 17 minutes remaining as the Rams move to 4-4-1 overall in GNAC play while the Cadets drop to 4-4 in league play.

With Saturday's win the Rams now move into fifth place with 13 points in the league standings as they look to defend their 2010 GNAC title with the eight-team conference tournament beginning on October 30. Suffolk has one GNAC regular season game remaining on the schedule as they travel to Johnson & Wales University on Saturday at 3:00pm. Norwich falls into a three-way tie with 12 points for the sixth, seventh and eighth spots as the Cadets post a 4-4 record along with Emmanuel College and Mount Ida College.

Cohen netted his second game winning goal of the season as he bolted a shot from 20 yards out on the left wing past Norwich freshman goalkeeper Christian Hallstrom (Las Vegas, Nev.). Junior James Harvey (Reading, Mass.) kept the play going with a terrific individual effort to keep to pressure deep in the Norwich defensive zone. Harvey slid the ball across to the middle of the field to senior Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) who hit Cohen streaking down the left side.

The Rams answered Norwich who evened the game just two minutes prior as senior Ryan Robertson (Northfield, Vt.) capitalized on a Suffolk turnover for his third goal of the season.

Robertson's goal was the lone blemish on the stat sheet for Suffolk goalkeeper James Potter (North Kingston, R.I.) who was strong again in net for the Rams making eight saves in the contest.

Senior Nick Cugine (Ridgefield, Conn.) got the Rams on the board with the lone goal of the first half coming at the twelve minute mark. On a corner kick by sophomore Nick DiCicco (Wethersfield, Conn.), Cugine headed in the ball to give Suffolk the early edge.

Norwich held a 24-15 edge in shots as junior Garrett Shufelt (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was the most active player on the field registering nine shots in the contest for the Cadets.

Norwich will travel back down to Boston on Wednesday afternoon as they take on the Emmanuel College Saints in GNAC action at 3:00pm.

Suffolk will host Endicott College on Monday evening in their last regular season home contest at Dilboy Stadium. The match is set for a 6:30pm start.
