Lions Nip Suffolk 1-0 in Men's Soccer Action

The Emerson College Lions (7-6, 5-2 GNAC) outlasted the Suffolk University Rams (4-9-1, 3-4-1 GNAC) by a 1-0 margin on Monday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer action.

Sophomore Jon Havens (Williamsport, Pa.) scored the game's lone goal as he knocked home a rebound in the fiftieth minute as the Lions improve to 5-2 in GNAC play on the season and move to 7-6 overall on the season. With the loss the Rams now drop to a 4-9-1 overall record and pick up their fourth loss in GNAC play to go along with three wins and a tie.

Senior Noah Price (Apex, N.C.) stopped all four shots he faced as the stingy Lions defense only had the Rams to eight total shots in the contest.

Freshman James Potter (North Kingston, R.I.) was the tough luck loser in goal for the Rams as he stopped four of five shots in the game.

Emerson held an 18-8 overall edge in shots in the contest.

Both teams squandered scoring opportunities in the contest.

Senior Juan Ossa (Bogota, Columbia) nearly scored the game's first goal in the thirtieth minute of the contest but he shot nailed the top of the crossbar deflecting out of bounds.

Senior Nick Cugine (Ridgefield, Conn.) nearly evened the game in the fifty-fifth minute of the contest, but his 20-yard shot sailed a little too much to the right as it bounced off the Lions' goalpost. Freshman Andres Cohen (Caracas, Venezuela) missed a chance to even up the Rams with six minutes remaining as he his shot in front of the Rams net sailed high over the goal.

Emerson will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon as they take on UMass-Boston in non-league action  at 3:30pm. Suffolk will host Norwich University on Saturday afternoon at 4:30pm.
