Men's Soccer Fall In Overtime 2-1 to Salve Regina

Senior Christopher Knoth (Pompton Plains, N.J.) scored five minutes into the first overtime to lift the Salve Regina Seahawks (3-1-1 overall) to a 2-1 overtime victory over the Suffolk Univeristy Rams (1-5 overall) on Wednesday evening at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.

Knoth slipped through the Suffolk defense after a corner kick and bolted a shot from 15 yards out as the Seahawks pick up their third win of the season, while the Rams drop their second overtime game in a row and fall to 1-5 on the season.

Trailing by a goal with 18 minutes remaining freshman Andres Cohen (Caracas, Venezuela) split the Seahawks defense as he was led by freshman Tyler Parmelee (Colchester, Conn.) scoring his second goal of the year.

Senior Sean McAllister got the scoring started five minutes into the second half as he converted a pass from junior Patrick Vierengel (Armonk, N.Y.) who led up past the Suffolk defense on the right side.

Both teams played through a scoreless first half despite each side squandering golden scoring opportunities. Salve appeared to have gotten on the board first in the game's fifth minute as senior Nicodermo Camarda (Burlington, N.J.) knocked in a rebound off of a kick from McAllister, but was offsides to negate the play.

Later in the first half senior Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) had a chance to score his third goal in as many games but his shot nicked off the Seahawks' crossbar.

The Seahawks held a slight advantage in shots in the game with an 18-16 margin, however they held a 5-0 advantage in the extra frame.

McAllister nearly ended the game seconds prior to his game-winner as his shot from twenty yards strayed just a couple feet with of the Suffolk net.

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Kureczka (Berlin, Conn.) made five saves in securing his third win of the season.

On the other side freshman James Potter (North Kingston, R.I.) was strong once again pushing aside 10 shots as he takes another tough luck loss.

Salve Regina will be The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action on Saturday as they take on Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30pm. Suffolk will travel to Nashua, N.H. on Saturday to take on the Rivier College Raiders in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
