Tufts Defense Holds Suffolk to 2-0 Loss

Somerville, Mass – The Tufts University Jumbos (3-2-1 overall) stopped the Suffolk University Men's Soccer team (5-4 overall) by a 2-0 margin on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

Sophomore Franco Silva (Houston, Tex.) scored the first goal of the game at the 52-minute mark as he picked up a loose ball on the side of the Suffolk goal and fired a shot by Rams goalkeeper Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, Mass.).

With a little over one-minute remaining in the contest freshman Scott Blumenthal (Simsbury, Conn.) would ice the game for the Jumbos as make a spectacular effort play diving for a loose ball and pushing it with his lead leg into the net for the second tally over the game.

Neither team could get much offense going in the first half as both teams played a physical contest. Tufts outshot the Rams 15-8 in the contest.

Junior Alan Bernstein (Wayne, N.J.) made six saves in goal for the shutout, as the Tufts defense swarmed the Suffolk forwards all net putting pressure on them not allowing many offensive opportunities.

Tufts will be back in action on Saturday as they host Bates College in their homecoming game at 2:30pm. The Rams will be back in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action hosting Lasell College at 4:00pm.
