Men's Soccer Tops Johnson & Wales, 3-1

Box Score

Somerville, Mass. – The Suffolk University Men's soccer team (3-3 overall, 1-1 GNAC) scored three second half goals to take a 3-1 victory over the Johnson & Wales Wildcats (1-5-1 overall, 1-1 GNAC) on Saturday evening. The win is the first for the Rams in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play for the 2010 season.

Junior Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) broke a 1-1 tie in the game's 68th minute converting on a penalty kick for his third goal of the season, and first game-winner in 2010.

There was not much action in the opening half as neither team could find the back of the net, with the Rams controlling much of the action outshooting Johnson & Wales 10-2.

Freshman Christian Zambrano (Madrid, Spain) scored the game's first goal three minutes into the second half after a defensive takeaway deep in the Wildcats' zone. Zambrano made a couple of shift moves to work his way by a pair of Wildcats' defenders scoring his second goal of the year and giving the Rams an early 1-0 edge.

The Wildcats would answer ten minutes later as sophomore Ben Bellows (Chester, Conn.) nailed a shot from 20 yards away to even the game at 1-1.

Freshman Jeff Harvey (Reading, Mass.) gave the Rams some insurance midway through the second half as he knocked in his second goal of the year on a spectacular scissor kick off of a rebound by a shot from senior Luis Flores (Madrid, Spain).

Junior Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, Mass.) needed to make on two saves for his second win of the season.

Suffolk outshot Johnson & Wales 23-8 in the contest.

Johnson & Wales will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) at 1:00pm. Suffolk hosts Daniel Webster College in non-league action on Wednesday at 8:00pm.
