Rivier Slows Down Suffolk, 4-2

Box Score

Nashua, NH - Rivier College recorded their first conference victory of the year over GNAC foe Suffolk University in a 4-2 heated battle.

Suffolk started off the scoring early when Danny Lloyd put the ball in the back of the net just 6:49 into the game.  Rivier then tightened up the defense and held Suffolk scoreless for the remainder of the half.  Rivier got on the board at 36:48 when Eric Moreno took a corner kick and placed a ball into the box where Robbie Belcher got a head onto it and the ball landed at the feet of senior Gustavo Marques, who blasted a ball into the top left corner of the goal to tie the game at 1.  The first half would end in a 1-1 tie.

Rivier opened up the second half scoring when Eric Moreno took a crossing pass from Chris Nugent and skipped the ball over the Suffolk keeper.  However, it took Suffolk less than a minute to re-tie the game as Luis Flores scored on a pass from Nick Celia.

Shortly after, fireworks erupted as both a Rivier player and the Suffolk keeper were handed red cards and both teams were forced to play 10 v. 10.  With just under 15 minutes to play raiders junior Chris Nugent found his way past a defender as Marques laid the ball in for him and Nugent scored the eventual game winner.  Rivier would add one more goal as Marques scored on an indirect kick from just outside of the box.

Rivier improves to 2-12 on the season while Suffolk falls to 5-5-2.  Rivier will host Emmanuel on October 21 at 7:00 PM, while Suffolk will host Mount Ida on the same day at 6:00 PM
